Balitoridae, commonly known as hillstream loaches or river loaches, are a family of small, freshwater fish from Asia, adapted to cling to rocks in fast-flowing, oxygen-rich streams. They are characterized by flattened bodies and enlarged pectoral and pelvic fins, with some species even capable of walking on land. Popular in aquariums, they feed on algae and invertebrates and are known for their unique adaptations to turbulent water.
Key Characteristics

• Appearance: Small, elongated bodies, often with a flattened underside; some have patterns like reticulations.
• Adaptations: Enlarged, horizontally placed fins for clinging to rocks; some species have unique pelvic structures for walking.
• Diet: Primarily algae, detritus, and small invertebrates; they graze on surfaces.
